Strategic Ventures and Economic Development

Strategic Ventures and Economic Development

The Department of Strategic Ventures and Economic Development (SVED) at Utah State University utilizes three separate functions and capitalizes on Utah State's many strengths. SVED fosters university driven economic development by combining, university research, the commercialization process, and the act of incubating small businesses in affordable office space that is still close to the lab.

USTAR Management and Coordination:
Additional research is fostered through the
Utah Science, Technology, and Research Initiative (USTAR) in areas such as Biofuels, Advanced Nutrition, and Active Sensing and Imaging. These strategic research fields have been selected for their high-growth potential along with their pre-existence as an expertise at Utah State University.

Technology Commercialization Office:
The
Technology Commercialization Office (TCO) assists creators and inventors through the process of the realization of the true market value of their idea, as well as ensures that all of the correct steps are taken concerning the Intellectual Property involved.

Innovation Campus:
Finally, the
Innovation Campus (IC) provides a space for all of the exciting developments. With both laboratory and office space available, the Innovation Campus is able to assist new and growing spin-outs of university research. Here, researchers are able to remain involved with the commercial aspect of their inventions and innovations while continuing to pursue the things that they are experts in, discovering improvements and additional breakthroughs that will help the small business to excel.
